Infinite Justice now Enduring Freedom

Wednesday, September 26th, 2001

From the Associated Press:

The military campaign - separate from the financial, diplomatic
and law enforcement tools being mobilized against terrorism - has
been code-named Enduring Freedom, Rumsfeld said.
The name first chosen, Infinite Justice, was scrapped after
the administration recognized that in the Islamic faith such
finality is considered something provided only by Allah.

Seybold dinner outing

Doc, Dave, and other journalists, bloggers, and others will be meeting at 7pm tonight at
Henry’s Hunan,

924 Sansome Street (note the address - Henry’s has three locations) in San Francisco, for dinner and talk. Please join us if you can.

My comment from Dave’s morning keynote discussion: People talk about how we reacted online in the past two weeks, and how independent voices augmented and even corrected Big Media. But until we can link to some Afghan webcams or bloggers in Baghdad, there’s a big hole in the conversation. Our use of the word we doesn’t really mean all of us.

On a different topic, from today’s Wall Street Journal:

There is bad news in store for lawmakers thinking about changing the nation’s laws to somehow limit encryption, an idea that has been mentioned in Washington since the Sept. 11 attacks.

You couldn’t do so, say mathematicians and engineers — even if you really wanted to.
