I can retire now

Monday, December 16th, 2002

My Poindexter story won the ego-surfing trifecta: #1 on Daypop, #1 on Blogdex, and top of Slashdot at the same time yesterday. Admittedly I’d rather see something based more on my own intrepid reporting making the rounds, but I guess you can’t wag the Internet dog with the tale of your choice.

The story was also linked by Matt Drudge, leading to messages in my inbox well below the usual level of discourse from readers. All I can say to that guy from Florida is: same to you, fella.

I admit I’m enjoying the backlash in a way. Two weeks ago I got a barrage of hate mail denouncing me as a hired mouthpiece for rich Republicans. This week I’m a sonofabitch California liberal terrorist sympathizer. Such emails usually include the stumper, “Why won’t you admit it?!?”

Maybe I really do switch ideologies between stories. But one thing’s for sure: Every time someone takes the time to email me a screechy “why don’t you report some real news,” they’ve proven that I just did.

FCC approves Vivato

In more pragmatic news, Glenn F reports that Vivato’s super-duper wireless Internet bases have been approved by the FCC, a major hurdle cleared on the path to getting one installed in my neighborhood.
