Moving to New York City
Wednesday, February 26th, 2003Start spreadin’ the news: Christina and I are
moving to New York City this weekend. We’ve vacated our San Francisco loft and will be living in a
Chelsea high-rise for a couple of months. The last time I flew into JFK, I knew that after twelve years in Silicon Valley, it was time for a change. We plan to move back West to Marin County this summer, but even if we do things will be different.
Another change: I’ll be writing twice a week for Slate’s technology section, which will take up nearly all my time. I hope to do for tech what Daniel Gross (and James Surowiecki before him) did for Slate’s Moneybox section. Might as well aim high.
Speaking of NYC, my New York Times article on the Spring interface, Turning the Desktop Into a Meeting Place, is in Thursday’s paper. A bicoastal high five goes to editor Kevin McKenna and copy editor Jeff Rubin at the Times for helping me vastly improve the article’s relevance and clarity.
Terry Colon, who used me as an unwitting model for The Hack character he created when we both worked for Wired, sent me a new cartoon (see bottom) with a note, “Glad to see the real Hack is doing better than the fictional wannabe and his fishy friend.”
