RFID tags: a no-nonsense explanation

On Slate: Will a new batch of wireless identification devices change the world? Or as my editor dubbed it, “We Know What You’re Buying.”

I think I can tell when one of my articles gets posted to an activists’ forum - lots of similar emails arrive at once. I don’t mind in this case - the Safeway Club Card crowd are more fun than, say, Mac evangelists. But while I spend the rest of the day scrolling through emails stuffed with references to Orwell (don’t you guys read anything else?), you might want to peruse the Onion’s lengthy interview with P.J. O’Rourke, guaranteed funnier than the next occurence of “Orwellian” in my inbox.

Why Orwell references are funny

Our cat is named Orwell. After Homage to Catalonia rather than 1984, though. Here he is refusing to give back the comfy chair. A cat of firm principle - Orwellian in the more proper sense.
