New virus: MyDoom

Yes, that barrage of emails and mailer-daemon reports that began arriving in your inbox this afternoon is a new virus called MyDoom. Here's Symantec's response page.

If you're subscribed to my weblog, my posts are going to feel like another kind of virus when they start arriving several times a day. If you don't know how to unsubcribe from getting every one separately in your inbox, email me and I'll turn it off for your address.

"Stellaaaa" in 298 accents

Researchers at George Mason University recorded 248 regional speakers, from Afrikaans to Zulu, reading the same paragraph: Please call Stella.  Ask her to bring these things with her from the store:  Six spoons of fresh snow peas, five thick slabs of blue cheese, and maybe a snack for her brother Bob.  We also need a small plastic snake and a big toy frog for the kids.  She can scoop these things into three red bags, and we will go meet her Wednesday at the train station. Glad to see they differentiated Parisian French from the kind my grandparents learned in Quebec.
