Newsmashing!

Tuesday, March 15th, 2005

Slate breaks the news on the hot new trend of newsmashing - “the new technique that will change blogging forever.” We were going to have a newsmashing contest, but the lawyers shot it down. Damn you, copyright law!

Whatever you do, be sure not to confuse newsmashing with Better Bad News’ blogmashing.

My editor (Josh Levin … coincidence?) chopped the following passage, which I’m going to publish anyway using the power of the blogosphere:

As mashes get newsmashed, and more newsmashers newsmash those mashes in turn, the end result will be a convergence of visually mashed-up news that encapsulates all human knowledge, asymptotically approaches truth, and seamlessly morphs into a book deal and keynote speaker gigs for yours truly.

Apologies to anyone who doesn’t get the jokes here. I’m off on a reporting trip until Wednesday night and will answer mail then.
