New York mag: The Blog Establishment

Monday, February 13th, 2006

Now that our pal Peter Rojas is “the best-compensated blogger in history,” he’s finally getting the attention he couldn’t get when he was merely talented, relentless, and astonishingly effective at turning first Gizmodo and then Engadget into must-reload sites. We worry he won’t have time to hang out with us now, but he didn’t have time to hang out with us then, either.

I’d stopped reading articles about blogs a while ago, but Blogs to Riches: The Haves and Have-Nots of the Blogging Boom is worth the clicks. Writer Clive Thompson (is this the most inbred article ever, or what) unintentionally serves up a demo of the difference between blogging and writing magazine features. That is, I can imagine most of my bloggerati buddies moaning “I knew all this already! I blogged it in 2003!” But I can’t imagine any of them laying it out so clearly and engagingly from start to finish, as Clive does here, for people who don’t spend all day on Technorati. Even if you do, read the piece anyway so you can speculate on the two A-listers who refused to be interviewed.
