Slate RSS feeds 2.0
I won’t get to try Slate’s new feeds myself until tonight, but the announcement I just got seems like the improvements readers most ask for.
1. Menu headlines are now in the feed, so the feed titles are more
descriptive. These also appear now on Slate’s feed at the Onion.2. The feed displays the first paragraph of the story, providing for
more of a preview than before. If the first paragraph won’t work, then the
feed shows the subhead.3. Each department now has its own RSS. You can see this offering on
the story pages in the left column, in yellow. Firefox users can also
click the live bookmark icon on a story and subscribe to both the main
Slate feed and that article’s applicable department feed.
The one more feature readers ask for: Subscription to a specific author. Jack Shafer builds his own custom feed. I don’t because I only publish 1-2x per month on Slate.
